The better way to live alone

During one of His discourse at Jettavana Monastery on ' knowing better way to live alone ', the Buddha said " Bhikkhus, one who really knows how to be alone dwells in the present moment, even if he is sitting in the midst of a crowd. If a person sitting alone in the middle of a forest is not mindful , if he is haunted by the past & future, he is not truely alone. " In order to summarise His teaching, the Buddha then recited a gatha. The English version of the gatha :-
' Do not pursue the past.
Do not lose yourself in the future.
The past no longer is.
The future has not yet come.
Looking deeply at the life as it is
In the very here and now,
The practioner dwells
In stability and freedom.
We must be diligent today.
To wait until tomorrow is too late.
Death comes unexpectedly.
How can we bargain with it ?
The sage calls a person who knows
How to dwell in mindfulness
Night and Day
'One who knows
