Define functional approach

Functional = what to do?  functionalists focus on common interests and needs shared by states (but also by non-state actors) in a process of global integration triggered by the erosion of state sovereignty and the increasing weight of knowledge and hence of scientists and experts in the process of policy-making (Rosamond, 2000).

Define Institution

Institution is A Set of rules of behavior. It sets limits, or constraints, on social, political and economic interaction, and in so doing plays as determining role. It may be informal (e.g. a manner, taboo, custom) or formal (e.g. a constitution or law)

The stage model (theory) of W.W. Rostow:
  1. Traditional Stage
  2. Pre – conditions for Takeoff  production

Explain three (3) pillars of European Union.

The 3 pillars of European Union are: 1 EEC, 2 Security and military and 3 Home affairs and Justice
   1. The European Communities pillar handled economic, social and environmental policies. It was the only pillar with a legal personality, consisting of the European Community (EC), the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC, until its expiry in 2002), and the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM).
   2. The Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) pillar took care of foreign policy and military matters.
   3. Police and Judicial Co-operation in Criminal Matters (PJCC) brought together co-operation in the fight against crime. This pillar was originally named Justice and Home Affairs (JHA).

There are two Ideological assumptions of Regionalism: Mercantilism and Liberalism compare that two assumptions and describe it. What view based integration of Europe and what view based integration of Asia?

Mercantilism is an economic theory which holds that the prosperity of a state is dependent upon its supply of capital; that the global volume of international trade is "unchangeable;" and that one party may benefit only at the expense of another.
Liberalism holds that state preferences, rather than state capabilities, are the primary determinant of state behavior. Unlike realism where the state is seen as a unitary actor, liberalism allows for plurality in state actions. Thus, preferences will vary from state to state, depending on factors such as culture, economic system or government type. Liberalism also holds that interaction between states is not limited to the political (high politics), but also economic (low politics) whether through commercial firms, organizations or individuals. Thus, there are plenty of opportunities for cooperation and broader notions of power, such as cultural capital (for example, the influence of American films leading to the popularity of American culture and creating a market for American exports worldwide).
Mercantilism based integration of Asia, liberalism based integration of EU
